Eli Roth, director of Cabin Fever and Hostel, is returning to the director’s chair after a lengthy hiatus spent producing and acting and such. Worldview Entertainment has signed on to produce and finance his new horror thriller The Green Inferno. Production will begin in Peru and Chile this Fall.

“I’ve had an amazing few years producing, writing and acting, and am very excited to get back in the director’s chair. I’ve been working on this idea for several years, and was inspired by filming in Chile and cannot wait to get back,” said writer-director Eli Roth. “Worldview backs my vision and believes in me, and is giving me the support I need and the freedom to take risks and make something daring and terrifying. I believe this will be the scariest and most intense film I have made to date. I want to audiences worldwide to feel my return to directing was worth the wait.”

The story is being kept under wraps so all that is left is for us to presume what it will be about. What do you think? Central America. Jungles. Ancient evil. Indigenous Indian tribes long thought extinct preying on stupid young Americans and sacrificing them to their gods. (Source)

Back in January, Eli Roth, who produced the 2010 hit The Last Exorcism, revealed that a sequel was in the works and was to be shot in February in New Orleans. We knew that Ashley Bell would return to play Nell Sweetzer, the possessed young girl, but now Bloody-Disgusting has a few more details from the new film.

The site says: “The sequel follows Nell (Bell) who, six months after the first film’s events, has moved to a halfway house only to realize that the demon that has ruined her life is still after her. Without giving anything away, the sequel takes an interesting romantic approach that’s focused on Nell’s new boyfriend, Chris. A subplot is that Bell is also targeted by a group of rogue Reverends who mean to kill her. The twist is something never before seen in an exorcism film.”

The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm didn’t return for the sequel. Instead, Ed Gass-Donnely (This Beautiful City) was brought on. The new movie is expected to be released late this year and to get an R rating.

“The first film worked great as a PG-13 psychological film, but now we want to go R-rated and show the true horror of what this subject matter offers,” explained Roth.

Horror director Eli Roth wants to give Las Vegas the creeps – he’s building a huge haunted house attraction. The Hostel director is hoping the Goretorium attraction in Sin City will become a “world Mecca for horror fans”.

He tells Deadline.com, “Horror fans know that with my name on it, it won’t be for little kids. They know it will be a very scary experience.”

The multi-storey haunted house isn’t the first time Roth has taken pleasure in give horror fans a real life scare – he has had huge success with the Hostel: Hunting Season maze at Hollywood’s Universal Studios.

A franchise is already expected for Goretorium, with plans in place to open branches in London, Tokyo and New York. The Vegas venue will open in September 2012. (Source)

Despite the creative freedom Netflix has given Eli Roth (executive producer) and Brian McGreevy (author of novel the show is based on), Eli made it clear that while Hemlock Grove will be shocking at times, he’s putting story before gory. Take a look at what he had to say below:

“We want to make a show that’s accessible, and I think there’s a place for movies like Human Centipede and Serbian Film, but we’re not doing that. What’s great about the medium is we have the freedom to do whatever we want, and it’s really up to our own creative boundaries and tastes. And this is why it’s really good to have other tastes in there like Deran Sarafian and Mark Verheiden [Hemlock Grove’s showrunner, previously on Battlestar Galactica and Heroes] and Sheila Callaghan [the wrtiting staff’s first hire, playwright of That Pretty Pretty; or, The Rape Play]. It’s really whatever best serves the story, and that’s how it should be. [Netflix and Gaumont] are letting us do what we want, but it’s up to us to censor ourselves. We don’t want to make a show where you watch one epsiode and go, ‘Oh God, why did I see that?’ I want people to watch the show and go, ‘Holy fuck, I can’t believe what they did on Hemlock Grove. Did you see that transformation scene? That was awesome, I want to watch more.’ I think there’s a fine line between kicking an audience’s ass and making them feel like they’ve been kicked in the balls.”

And the casting news for Eli Roth’s Netflix project Hemlock Grove continues as yet another familiar face has joined the frightful fold that will soon be streaming near you! According to Deadline, Dougray Scott is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Famke Janssen in Netflix’s new original series from Roth and Gaumont International TV.

If signed, he’ll join the previously announced Janssen, Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron, Freya Tingley, and Penelope Mitchell.

Written by Brian McGreevey and Lee Shipman based on McGreevy’s upcoming Gothic horror novel, Hemlock Grove revolves around the murder of a young girl found close to the former Godfrey steel mill. The suspects in her killing include Peter (Landon Liboiron), a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and Roman (Bill Skarsgard), the arrogant Godfrey scion, whose sister Shelley is disturbingly deformed and whose mother, Olivia (Janssen), is the beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove. Scott will play Norman Godfrey, the older brother of Olivia’s late husband, JR, one of the founders of the Godfrey Center for Biomedical Technologies. Wealthy, but with modest tastes and an equally modest home, Norman is sickened by Olivia’s displays of ostentation and the way in which she spoils her son. (Source)
