On June 11th Eli attended The Masters of Horror Dinner, an event that honors great horror filmmakers. The event reunited Eli with his Grindhouse co-stars (and friends) Rose McGowan, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Looking at the photos it seems like they all had a great time! Photo credit goes to James Gunn.

While your Leos and your Jacks were certainly happy to see the Lakers tie up the NBA Championship series against the Celtics, you have to feel sorry for the celebs who risked ridicule by showing their Boston pride at the Staples Center in LA last night.

Just looking at Eli Roth’s face tells us how frustrating the pummeling must have been, and just looking at Peaches Geldof tells us how confusing she must have found the game. Ah well, at least the loss kept Dane Cook from preening.

Moviemaker Eli Roth has asked medics at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles to hand over the urchin spike they recently extracted from his foot – because he wants it as a keepsake and potential horror film prop. The Inglourious Basterds star is still hobbling around after the last pin from his near-death urchin experience five months ago was removed on 19 May.

The actor/director was holidaying in Mexico when a kayaking adventure went wrong and he was pulled towards a sink hole. Roth managed to swim to a rock, only to find it was covered with poisonous urchins and he was stung 200 times. And now, months after the horrendous attack, Roth is still undergoing treatment for his injuries.

He had hoped the spike would work its way out naturally but doctors eventually decided surgery was the best option.

He tells WENN, “There was one last urchin pin I was hoping would dissolve and it just was killing me. It had been in there five months and I was told that surgery ran the risk of leaving a scar on the bottom of my foot that could actually hurt if I walked. So I was really trying to wait it out. This amazing surgeon at UCLA orthopedic was able to cut open the top of my foot and get it out. So I’m now walking around, urchin free. Although I have to take it easy and I can’t jog.”

And he wants the pin that caused him so much discomfort back: “I am tracking down that pin from the hospital. I definitely want to use it as a weapon in some future horror movie!”

French gore merchant Alexandre Aja is serving up a seafood (s)platter using piranhas and re-constituted human parts for us to gorge upon in his latest slice of cinematic mayhem. And he’s doing it in 3D too!

The stills we saw earlier this year were bloodier than a no-holds-barred boxing match with glass embedded in the gloves. Which is a good thing, no? Turn the blood and grue up to eleven! Judging from the trailer (and stills) we’ve seen, they’ll be laughs, there will be blood…and lots of naked women.

Piranha 3D stars a gloriously eclectic cast including Elizabeth Shue, Jerry O’Connell, Eli Roth and Richard Dreyfus and looks set to be the sickest movie of the entire summer. Can’t wait!

Today marks the 30th anniversary of sci-fi classic The Empire Strikes Back, so to cap off the week of special features on the subject, IGN decided to explain why they love the film so much, and contact some of their favourite writers and directors to get their take on Episode V. Below is what Eli Roth had to say:

As a child, Star Wars was hands down my favorite film of all time. I didn’t think there could possibly be a better film, until I saw Empire Strikes Back. Empire was the equivalent of The Godfather: Part II, except for children. From the opening shot on Hoth, to the reveal of Darth being Luke’s father, through the final moment of Han Solo in the carbon chamber, I was blown away by the new characters, creatures, and planets. I immediately started wearing my earmuffs like Lobot, “I am your father” became the Dad catchphrase in everyone’s family, and whenever it snowed we tried to make Han Solo carbon chamber impressions in the snow. Empire was the film where Han Solo really came into his own. It was then I realized that he was the star of the film, not Luke. I didn’t want to be like Luke Skywalker anymore, I wanted to be Han, the total cocky badass. And for all the amazing imagery and the reveal of Darth Vader being Luke’s father, the moment I love the most today is Solo’s classic response to Leia’s profession of love, “I know.” Even as he’s about to be frozen in carbonite, knowing he’ll probably never see her, he can’t miss the opportunity to make an obnoxious comment. My hero.

Moviemaker and actor Eli Roth is still suffering from his near-death experience over the New Year when he was stung by deadly sea urchins – the star underwent surgery on Wednesday, May 19th to remove one of the creature’s spikes.

The Inglourious Basterds star was holidaying in Mexico when a kayaking adventure went wrong and he was pulled towards a sink hole. Roth managed to swim to a rock, only to find it was covered with poisonous urchins and he was stung 200 times. And now, months after the horrendous attack, Roth is still undergoing treatment for his injuries.

In a post on his personal Twitter.com page, he writes, “Surgery today for final sea urchin pin. If I die, know that my only true regret in life was sitting through America’s Sweethearts.”

His girlfriend Peaches Geldof admits she was horrified when she saw the object that doctor’s removed from her beau’s foot.

She tweeted, “Just saw the sea urchin spike that came out of @eliroth’s foot. Its about the size of a small elephant. Mildly disturbed to say the least.”

But Roth confirms the procedure was a success, adding: “I’m alive! Thanks to everyone @ UCLA Orthopedic, and to @peaches_g for being an amazing nurse. The pin was HUGE and not at all dissolved.”

The Eli Roth produced horror film, The Last Exorcism, previously known as Cotton, from german director and AFI grad Daniel Stamm, stars Patrick Fabian as a troubled evangelical minister who allows his final exorcism to be filmed by a documentary crew:

Disillusioned by years of defrauding poor believes of their hard-earned cash, evangelical preacher Cotton Marcus decides to put the record straight by producing a spectacular documentary. A letter from Louis, a poor farmer begging for Cotton’s help in driving the devil off his land, gives Cotton the perfect opportunity to expose the phoniness of his ministry. But then he meets Louis’ disturbed young daughter, Nell.

The film premieres in the US on August 27th, and in anticipation of its release, Shock Till You Drop got their hands on some exclusive images from the film. View the Stills
